The ceiling shown in the previous entry is within this Temple of Dendera (above) which is on the west bank of the Nile in Upper Egypt. This temple has a very long history since the earliest dynasties and structures were erected throughout the various occupations. There is a birth chapel, two Roman wells, various churches, the remains of a Roman sanatorium (health restoring baths and site of oracular divination through dreams), and a shrine of the birth of Isis.
Hathor was worshiped throughout all of Egypt but her cult center was here at Dendera. She was also known as Het-Hert and Hetheru. She was revered in all realms of dance and the arts and was a patron of the sky and the sun. Hathor is associated with the royal family as her name translates to “The House of Horus” which is the entire world. So she is considered mother-goddess of the whole world.
