The 21st Cascade AIDS Project’s Annual Art Evening and Auction will be held in Portland, Oregon on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the historic Bison Building, 419 NE 10th Ave.This grand event was created by the art community to support CAP’s work to make a dramatic difference in the lives of so many infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. This fund raiser has grown over two decades from a small affair to an impressive event in the social calendar of Portland.

CAP is dedicated to meeting the funding challenges for HIV prevention, education, support, housing and advocacy in Oregon and SW Washington. Many Northwest artists donate over 200 works to this gala auction event, and the one shown above, Imagine That,  is my submission to this cause. The Guest Curators for 2010 are Roger Hull, Gail Beppu, Amy Caplan, Charles Froelick, and Charles Hartman. One thousand guests will enjoy an evening of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, followed by dinner, an oral auction, and live entertainment by Cirque du Soleil.

Chiaroscuro Painting

Oil painting with the chiaroscuro technique illuminates the focus area with a strong light. All other areas are painted with less detail, lower values, and intensity of color giving a mysterious appearance. By putting one or two objects in the important focus area, a strong but simple composition will emerge. Combining these oil painting techniques with a selection of superior natural pigments and oil paints result in the beautiful and evocative quality known as Chiaroscuro Painting.

    Margret,
I just love your “Imagine That”. The colors and the simpler open style just capture my heart since I prefer lighter fare. I’m sure your donation will bring a lot of interest and funds to help the charity. Great Work! Judy J from Rockwood
