On July 9th on Artists Mentors Online, I listened to the captivating discussion with Michael Harding and Tony Pro. Mr. Harding talked about the making of his line of paints and how he became interested in this topic. There were intelligent questions asked by artists via email and telephone.
As you know, one of my favorite pigments is natural vermilion/cinnabar and being curious as usual, I wanted to know more about this pigment in Harding's line. Knowing exactly where to find the pigment locally, Dave and I stopped in at one of Portland's best art supply stores, Muse Art and Design, on Sunday afternoon.
Peter Rossing, the owner, introduced me to none other than Michael Harding himself. He and his wife, Karyn, were in town and heading home after being in Santa Rosa for the AMO broadcast last Monday. We had a lively talk about our mutual passion, pigments, natural earth colors, and how to make and use them. He mentioned he is coming out with a rose madder soon along with some new lead whites. I will be experimenting with the Genuine Vermilion tomorrow and will share results with you.
Have you tried this pigment or others in the Harding line? Leave a comment with your thoughts.
