OPA Reception, Scottsdale

May 21, 2010 by Margret Short

Me, Dave, Alan, Paula

The 2010 Oil Painters of America National Exhibition Opening Reception at the Legacy Gallery in Scottsdale was splendid. As you can see, the space is spectacular and huge. All 200 paintings were exhibited in this room and the foyer. Dave and I were pleased to see fellow Oregonians, Alan Bell and Paula, at the event. Alan is a terrific artist who also has a painting in this show. All exhibited paintings may be viewed at the Legacy Gallery web site.

Me, Joanne, Linda, Jeannie

Our friends who live in Scottsdale now, the Yosts, attended the event also. Pictured here is Joanne Yost, my friend since sixth grade, her friends Jeannie and Linda Ambler.

Marty Yost with his daughter, Dyanna. It was wonderful to have so many supporters at this exhibition.

Chiaroscuro Painting

Oil painting with the chiaroscuro technique illuminates the focus area with a strong light. All other areas are painted with less detail, lower values, and intensity of color giving a mysterious appearance. By putting one or two objects in the important focus area, a strong but simple composition will emerge. Combining these oil painting techniques with a selection of superior natural pigments and oil paints result in the beautiful and evocative quality known as Chiaroscuro Painting.
