Azurite Splendors

I took this photo of spectacular paintings on the ceilings at Dendera Temple. There are traces of a blue green pigment that is possibly azurite. Not much color could be seen on vertical structures presumably because of wear and flaking over the centuries. However many ceilings had color remaining. The ceiling shown in the previous entry is within this Temple of Dendera (above) which is on the west bank of the Nile in Upper Egypt. Dendera Temple Ceiling Colors

At several places within the Temple of Dendera the colors from antiquity were visible. Here you can see the remains of a bluish pigment on the ceiling. The ancient Egyptians used two blues.
